This year, the Cook County, Illinois ballot is not a secret ballot. On each ballot there is a number. That number is recorded on a card with your name on it. As a result, it is possible for election officials to match completed ballots up to individual voters. This violates the right to a secret ballot: we are at the mercy of election officials not to match up ballots to voters.
I voted, but I'm not happy about this. When did we give up the secret ballot? Who authorized this?
